PRODUCTION - Film Ideas and Inspiration (pt2)
This post is just a follow up on ideas that we have explored in more detail. For the last few days, we have bounced about with different ideas and looked at what scenarios we could put a Serial Killer in. We had talked about the idea of a Job Centre and played about with how we could incorporate these together. We had got on really well and sort of decided on a beginning and middle of the film - the idea was that the Serial Killer was going to go to the Job Centre specifically for Serial Killers in search of a new victim as he was struggling to find one on his own.
The main jist of the story was that the main character was a male Serial Killer going to a Job Centre to find new victims. The opening scene will be a shot of the character entering the jon centre, then an over the shoulder shot of them opening the doors of the office. The following will be a match-on action shot of them walking through the doors and into the waiting room that will have a few other Serial Killers also waiting. As the main character sits down, he sits beside another man who is Ted Bundy (a very famous American Serial Killer). We also played about with the idea of an interview style shots of the main character talking about why he was going to the job centre and what he hoped to gain out of the experience. The middle scene and main part of the film will be the main character having the interview with a worker in the Job Centre who is trying to pair him with the perfect victim.
The struggle began when we tried to work out how to end the film. Ideally we would have loved the ending to have included the murder however we found great difficulties in trying to fit it all into a 5 minute slot without jumping and skipping scenes. This was also a pretty predictable ending to the film so it wasn't exactly making it exciting or intruiging for the audience so we decided to take a look at another idea.
We all discussed dating series we had watched on TV like First Dates, Love Island and The Undateables. The Undateables was a series that we were able to link closely with our ideas as a Serial Killer is definitely undateable. We wanted to put our own twist on this idea so it was unique to an audience. In the end, we came to a conclusion of 2 Serial Killers who are trying to settle down and find love. They want to forget about their past and live the life of normal people and have a steady relationship without the urge to kill. However, it may be slightly predictable but the date will not work out but this is unknown to each individual. This gives us a lot more things to play with in respect to interesting plots.
