PRODUCTION - Making Fake Blood
We wanted to add our own twist to the creation of the film and to do this successfully, we thought it would be really fun and interesting to do this ourselves and also adds a more personal touch to our film as we haven't bought in the blood but have actually taken the time and effort to go and make it ourselves.
We did some research on Google to find the perfect recipe. As Eimir has tiles on her kitchen floor it was important that we didn't damage them in any way.We looked into using a recipe with Red Food Colouring however and covering the floor in ClingFilm but as Poppy gets dragged along the floor we thought that this would in fact lift/rip or show up badly on camera. Most of the recipes contained Red Food Colouring, which would stain the floor in the kitchen so we had to find an alternative.
We found the perfect recipe (found below) that gave us a large amount of blood. Incase we needed to retake shots or anything, it was important that we had extra blood and this recipe gives us a Gallon - better to be safe than sorry.

These are the ingredients that we used.
Eimir offered to take the ingredients home and test out the recipe to see if it worked and if it did, how well it would look. Below are some of the pictures that she took of the process of making the blood.

STEP THREE - STEP FOUR -

This is the final result of how the blood looked against the tiles on the floor where the scene will be shot. The blood looks very realistic and is brightly coloured making it look more fresh as this blood will be coming out of Poppy as time plays so it will need to look like fresh blood.
This is how easily the blood wipes off the floor and doesn't leave a stain. This was an indication that the recipe was a success and that we would be able to use it in filming.
