PRODUCTION - Risk Assessment

I have made a list of all the possible hazards and risks that we may come across during filming due to locations and scenes. Below is a list of the hazard, the risk and the action we will take to prevent the hazard from occuring.  HAZARD RISK ACTION Walking through the park – people may get interested (cause a scene) if they see us filming or be walking through scenes. The camera and recorder will more than likely pickup on background noise such as people walking past, dogs barking, people talking or by passers may walk in front of the camera while filming. We will walk around the park before filming and find a location where is quiet to reduce the risk of by passers interfering with filming. Windows and Glass may reflect into the path of the camera obstructing the shot. The camera might pick up the reflections of people of objects in the background that will make the shot look staged and les...

PRODUCTION - Target Audience and Market Research

Image
For our film research, we decided to make a brief questionnaire to find out what sort of audience would be likely to view our film before we decide on our own target audience. We carried out the survey on a website called Survey Monkey. This meant that the survey was open to the general public so anyone who wished to take part had the opportunity to do so. I also sent the link into a group chat with my work colleagues, as did Eimir. Andrea also sent the link into a group chat with our school friends and Eimir asked her mummy and her friends to also take part in the survey. This meant that we could get a definite range of ages with ease.  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/6XYNYZY OUR TARGET AUDIENCE Below are the questions we asked.    QUESTION ONE  45.83% of survey takers were in the Age Range of 18 to 24. This is ideal for us as, we too, are of that age bracket and felt that making a film to appeal to our own age group would be the best as we kn...

PRODUCTION - Casting

The casting process was quite difficult. As we wanted our film to be the best we could make it, we wanted to have professional actors and actresses that had experience so that they would be able to produce high-quality material.  Firstly, we researched online any local companies that supply actors. We emailed a few different companies, informing them of what we were looking for as well as a brief about our film. Unfortunately, we didn't hear anything back from any of the companies. We then decided to ask people we knew who are currently studying Drama A-Level. There were a few actors and actresses we had in mind. This year, our school had a school show which was a remake of Oklahoma. My cousin played the role of Aunt Eller and Cormac played the role of Ali Hakim. They worked closely with Eimir during the play as she also acted in it. As well as delivering incredible performances, they both study Drama A-Level and we would all be very friendly so this made it a lot easier for ...

PRODUCTION - Codes and Conventions

Image
A mockumentary is a  a television programme or film which takes the form of a serious documentary in order to satirise it's subject.  Mockumentary productions are often used to analyse or comment on current affairs and events by using fictional settings or parodies in documentary forms itself. Mocumentaries tend to be comedic / pseudo-documentaries. Pseudo-Documentaries shouldn't be confused with  Docudramas  as they are similar however not the same. Pseudo Documentaries are a fictional genre that dramatic techniques are combined with documentary elements to portray real life events. Docudramas are a genre in which documentaries are mixed with fictional events.  The term "mockumentary" originated in the 1960's and popularised in mid 1980's. Mocumentaries tend to be presented as historical documentaries, discussing past events or pieces following people through various events. I watched a series on BBC called "Life and Death Row" which fol...

PRODUCTION - Research - The Undatables

Image
In this post I will be beginning to analyse other films in similar genres and look at how the codes and conventions align with our film idea. It will help us when it comes to looking at shot types to use,  This clip is from The Undateables. - Season 2 , Episode 1 STRUCTURE  The general structure of "The Undateables" is one that follows a normal eveyday scenario. It is very documentary styled in respect to the characters don't have any lines and when they area asked questions by the crew their answers are very natural. (above is an example). The character are initially seen going about their everyday life, being followed by the crew and being interviewed or asked general questions about their love life and about their past when it comes to relationships and love.  It then moves on to the office setting when the cast are being informed they've been matched with someone else who has similar interests, hobbies etc. The office styled setting helps make the au...
